Salt in Theaters Tomorrow
Tomorrow Angelina Jolie’s spy thriller, Salt, releases. It’s getting mediocre reviews (56% on Rotten Tomatoes so far), but it looks like it could be a very entertaining actioner. No offense to Jolie, but I will mostly be seeing it for the supporting cast. She is joined by two underrated but amazingly talented actors – Liev Schreiber(♥!!) and Chiwetel Ejiofor(♥!!). Both of them are talented enough to lead any film, but usually do not get the chance. Here they play fellow CIA agents – Schreiber as Salt’s partner, Ted Winter, and Ejiofor as Peabody, the agent that’s supposed to bring her in after she’s been accused of being a Russian spy.
Looks like we’ll be seeing lots of action in this one, with Jolie doing most of her own stunts as usual. And, she does seem to be one of very few women that can pull off being lead in an action movie. She’s no Ripley, but the woman can kick some butt onscreen. This time she takes over a role that was originally written for Tom Cruise, as Edwin Salt. When he dropped out, they rewrote the script with Jolie in mind. The timing of this movie’s release is a interesting coincidence, as several people recently have been arrested in the U.S. for being Russian sleeper agents. It’s cooler when it’s in a movie.
Here’s a little featurette with Angelina Jolie and Liev Schreiber talking about the story. Jolie says the movie is “a little Bond, a little Bourne and a little Salt.”
Recent Bond, and definitely Bourne might be a bit hard to live up to. We shall see. Will you be seeing Salt in theaters?
