Gerard Butler for L’ORÉAL

Gerard Butler - L'Oréal

Gerard Butler for L'Oréal

A while ago I mentioned that Gerard Butler had signed with L’ORÉAL to promote their Men Expert line. As is typical with Hollywood actors that sign an endorsement deal, the agreement with L’ORÉAL was to promote only in Europe and other areas – not in the U.S. As we all know, this is the age of the internet and it’s just silly of anyone to assume that folks in the U.S. will never see any of the ad campaigns. You can go to the L’ORÉAL French website to see Gerry’s face plastered there.

Of all the endorsements Butler could have made, this one was a bit surprising to me. The dude comes off as a very manly man, not the sort of guy that goes around using facial exfoliant, moisturizers or under-eye roller to get rid of dark circles. OK, maybe the latter could be useful for an actor that is known for partying on occasion. But, still. My husband would be ready for me to move out if I even suggested he use “man make-up” or “man moisturizer” – he won’t even put lotion on his calloused man-hands!

Gerry - L'Oréal

So anyway, there’s no point to this post other than to say I was mystified that Butler would sign this particular deal. I guess he knows men will still think of him as Leonidas, and some women will still think of him as the Phantom, and I’m probably the only person that thought, “He uses under-eye roller and anti-wrinkle & firming moisturizer – huh?!”

Now that I might need a Brillo pad to scrub that from my brain, let’s think about Gerry’s upcoming projects and not think about the fact that he might exfoliate his lovely face this evening. He has two projects coming up that I’m very excited about…

Machine Gun Preacher has Gerry playing Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing biker who found God, became a preacher and went to Sudan to save children from getting forced into being child soldiers. It’s really a fantastic story, and it’s true! Michelle Monaghan co-stars as Sam’s wife. Machine Gun Preacher is being directed by Marc Forster and is scheduled for release in September of next year.

The other project I’m looking forward to is Coriolanus. This project is actor Ralph Fiennes first foray into directing. Based on the Shakespearean play, Coriolanus is a modern day interpretation of the work that sees Coriolanus ally with his enemy after being banished from his own city. Ralph Fiennes is pulling double-duty as director and as actor – he plays the title character. Gerard Butler plays his enemy, Tullus Aufidius. Vanessa Graves and always fantastic Scottish actor, Brian Cox, round out the cast. Coriolanus may still be on the market for a U.S. distributor, there is no release date as of yet.

In April I posted some photos from filming…Check those out here.
