Happy Thursday, friends! After a break last week, Person of Interest is back with a new episode tonight. The “Best New Drama” People’s Choice winner is pretty fantastic, with Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson both bringing interesting characters to life in the series.
On tonight’s Person of Interest, “Root Cause,” Reese and Finch’s latest POI is a down-on-his-luck man who may have reached his breaking point. As the case evolves, the duo calls upon a former POI for help – the resourceful and well-connected Zoe.

Jim Caviezel as John Reese in "Person of Interest"
In Person of Interest, Jim Caviezel stars as former CIA operative John Reese, who now works as the muscle for an eccentric billionaire. Michael Emerson stars as that billionaire, Harold Finch, who created a program for the government to find terrorist plotters before they had a chance to strike. His program, called The Machine, not only finds those potential baddies but also civilians who will be involved in fatal incidents. It’s up to Reese and Finch to determine if the ‘person of interest’ is the victim or the perpetrator. Taraji P. Henson is so good as NYPD Detective Carter, who has finally been let in on part of the team’s secret. She doesn’t yet know it’s a computer program that points out the POI for the odd couple team of Reese and Finch though. And, Kevin Chapman plays Detective Fusco, a former bad copper that Reese has strong-armed into working for him. Reese hasn’t let Carter and Fusco in on the joke that they are both working for him as his inside man at NYPD.

Michael Emerson as Harold Finch in "Person of Interest"
In tonight’s POI, Paige Turco returns as fixer Zoe. This site saw lots of hits from folks looking for information on Paige after her first episode of Person of Interest. Other guest-stars for the evening are Myk Watford as Scott Powell, Amy Hargeaves as Leslie Powell, Erin Kilgore as Mia Powell, Victor Slezak as Congressman Michael Eames, Dan Ziskie as Senator Gene Atkins, John Cenatiempo as Gage, Damian Young as Pete Matheson, Brennan Brown as Special Agent Ellis, Bill Cohen as the Pawn Broker, Michael Milligan as Campaign Supervisor, Ryan Breslin as the Student, and Casey Predovic as the Teen Guy. “Root Cause” was written by Erik Mountain, and directed by Richard J. Lewis.
Person of Interest airs tonight, February 2, at 8:00pm CT/9:00pm ET on CBS.

Well, well, is anyone besides me watching The Firm? According to TV by the Numbers, The Firm is certain to be cancelled by May. Seriously? I guess I should have assumed that if Prime Suspect, which was in my opinion a more solid series, didn’t cut it on Thursday night against The Mentalist then The Firm wouldn’t fare any better. In this day and age of DVRs being counted though, you would think there is room for people to watch more than one good show in the hour. I guess they should have tackled it as a procedural and left out the long-running conspiracy, I imagine more people would have watched it in that form. Shame, because it’s pretty intriguing so far!
* EDIT: NBC has now announced that The Firm will be moving to Saturdays at 8:00pm CT/9:00pm ET starting on February 11. So starting next Thursday, NBC will be playing an encore of their new hit series Grimm in the 9:00pm CT/10:00pm ET time period instead of The Firm. I do believe that may be the funeral gong for the series that you’re hearing.
Tonight on The Firm, “Chapter Six,” Mitch is blindsided when a Judge’s offer of leniency for his client is revealed to have ulterior motives. A clever Claire tries to convince her parents that she needs a cell phone to fit in, but when her parents disagree she devises a new plan that scares Abby to the core. Meanwhile, Tammy and Ray continue piecing together what little clues they have on the Sarah Holt case, hoping to help Mitch get some answers.
In The Firm, Josh Lucas stars as defense attorney Mitch McDeere, who recently took his family out of Witness Protection. Molly Parker plays Mitch’s wife, Abby, who is a school teacher. Callum Keith Rennie plays Mitch’s ex-con brother, Ray, who now works as Mitch’s private investigator. Juliette Lewis plays Ray’s girlfriend, Tammy, who is also Mitch’s secretary. And, Natasha Calis plays Mitch’s and Abby’s daughter, Claire.
In The Firm, there are several recurring characters, including Alex Paxton-Beesley as Mitch’s defendant – Sarah Holt, Tricia Helfer as the sinister head attorney at Kinross & Clark – Alex Clark, and Shaun Majumder as Cross’s lackey – Andrew Palmer.
In tonight’s The Firm, Victor Garber guest-stars as Judge Dominic.

Almost time for a new episode of Justified. That totally makes your Tuesday, I know. Mine too! Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins are both so freakin’ phenomenal in the FX series. I still can’t believe they were overlooked at the Golden Globes® this year. Nuts!
Last week on Justified, Boyd made his way to jail after punching Raylan. The move was intentional so he could get in jail to get to Dickie Bennett. The dude will eventually regret shooting Ava, you can bet on that. Boyd finally got himself near Dickie by sacrificing himself to an asskicking to end up in solitary. After bribing the guard to let him in Dickie’s cell, Dickie bought himself some time by telling Boyd that Limehouse has the money Mags left for him, but that Limehouse will never hand it over to anyone but him. After a Marshal with Witness Protection was killed, the team split up to cover his local protected witnesses. Raylan was teamed up with Karen Goodall, who he seemed to have a past with. Art went over to witness Terry Powe’s house and realized the man had been up to something. After checking his GPS, Art took Terry back to his house and found a stash of money the man had hidden.
Art’s methods were a bit different that Raylan’s, as Raylan tends to be quick to use his gun. The boss used more of a wrap-up-my-hand-and-beat-your-face-in method and we saw Art in a new light. He finally threatened to shoot him and frame it up and Powe broke. Turned out he was trying to buy himself back into the crime family he had testified against, which is how he ended up in Witness Protection. To get the money for that, he had followed the Witness Protection Marshal to find out who else was a witness in the area – and then sold them out. Art and the others ended up over at the house Rachel had been assigned to. Rachel had taken the mother and her children to the attic and after a tense moment with the man climbing up the attic stairs, Rachel took the guy out. Meanwhile, we also got our first glimpse at baddie Limehouse as he threatened an employee who had fallen asleep on the job. He gave the guy a choice to get another chance with his next screw up meaning death, or to pay the price of having his hand dipped in lye to make them even. Dude chose the second chance, and we saw the hand of the other henchman with Limehouse – who had a badly scarred up hand.
On tonight’s Justified, “Harlan Roulette,” Raylan’s face-off with a tyrannical Oxy dealer puts him on a collision course with the new head of the Dixie Mafia. Boyd fights to take back part of his family’s empire, but his methods threaten to tear his crew apart.
In Justified, Timothy Olyphant stars as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, who has the misfortune of being employed in backwoods, drug-infested Harlan County – his home turf. Walton Goggins plays Boyd Crowder, who is making his way back into the local drug business after being a law abiding citizen for a short time. Boyd still seems to respect his connection with Raylan, who worked coal mines with him when they were teenagers. Nick Searcy plays Raylan’s boss Chief Deputy Art Mullen, who sometimes is frustrated by Raylan’s tendency to get in trouble but knows he also gets the job done. Jacob Pitts and Erica Tazel plays Raylan’s coworkers, Deputy Marshals Tim Gutterson and Rachel Brooks. Natalie Zea plays Raylan’s pregnant girlfriend Winona, who is also his ex-wife. And, Joelle Carter plays Boyd’s girlfriend, Ava Crowder, who was shot by Dickie Bennett last season.
Recurring characters on Justified this season include Jeremy Davies as the last of the Bennett clan – Dickie Bennett, Damon Herriman as Boyd’s dense cohort – Dewey Crowe, Jere Burns as slimy Wynn Duffy, David Meunier as Boyd’s cousin – Johnny Crowder, Kevin Rankin as Devil, Raymond J. Barry as Raylan’s baddie father – Arlo Givens. Neal McDonough portrays Detroit transplant Robert Quarles, who wants to take over the Oxy trade in Harlan County. And, Mykelti Williamson plays local baddie Limehouse, who runs a local crime unit from the holler.
In tonight’s Justified, Pruitt Taylor Vince guest-stars. Other guests are James LeGros as Wade Messer, Mike Foy as J.T. and Patrick Robert Smith as Maclin, and Eric Ladin was Wally Beckett.
Justified airs tonight, January 31, at 9:00pm CT/10:00pm ET on FX Network. Here are episode stills, courtesy of FX.

Happy Tuesday, ladies and gents. It’s a good night to get your laugh on with a new episode of New Girl. Zooey Deschanel may not have taken home the Golden Globe® for her role in the series, but she is nothing short of fabulous in the quirky comedy. The series is easily the best new comedy this year. No offense Suburgatory, I like you too, but New Girl has had the best laugh-out-loud moments on TV this year.
On tonight’s New Girl, “Jess and Julia,” Nick’s new gal Julia doesn’t want him to define their relationship, which worries Nick. Jess may not approve of Julia’s non-girlfriendness*, but she does approve of Julia helping her get out of a traffic ticket. Meanwhile, Winston reconnects with a former booty call, and Schmidt lets everyone know of his hate for damp towels.
In New Girl, Golden Globe® nominee Zoey Deschanel stars as dorky but adorable teacher, Jess, who moved into a loft with three strangers after her boyfriend cheated on her. No worries, the roommates are equally dorky. Jake Johnson plays cute roommate Nick, a bartender with low confidence who has great chemistry with his new roomie. Max Greenfield plays Schmidt, who has enough confidence for all the roommates combined and yet he’s the biggest dork of all. Check out his collection of hair and skin products in the bathroom, geez! Lamore Morris plays roommate Winston, who is probably the most normal of the roommates but still has his own quirks. And, Hannah Simone plays Jess’s bestie, CeCe.
In tonight’s New Girl, Lizzy Caplan returns as Nick’s non-girlfriend, Julia. And, Kali Hawk plays Winston’s old late-night friend, Shelby.
New Girl airs tonight, January 31, at 8:00pm CT/9:00pm ET on FOX. Here are episode stills from “Jess and Julia,” courtesy of FOX.

On Sunday, George Clooney attended the 18th Screen Actors Guild Awards® with the rest of Hollywood’s elite. Clooney was nominated for “Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role” for his part in The Descendants, but Jean Dujardin took home the trophy for his performance in The Artist. You can bet that it’s no skin off of Clooney’s back – he’s already taken home a Golden Globe® for his role in The Descendants and is also nominated for an Oscar® for his role in that movie as well. We’ll see if Clooney and Dujardin remain the frontrunners for that coveted “Best Actor in a Leading Role” Academy Award® next month, or if Gary Oldman, Demián Bichir, or Clooney’s pal Brad Pitt, can any take a surprise victory from them. Clooney is no one-trick pony though, as he is also nominated for the “Best Adapted Screenplay” Oscar® along with pal Grant Heslov and Beau Willimon for the screenplay for The Ides of March.
George Clooney walked the red carpet with his girlfriend du jour, Stacy Keibler, and took time to sign things for fans before chatting up Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen. During the SAG Awards® telecast on TBS and TNT, Clooney hit the stage even though he didn’t take home a trophy. The actor presented an award with his cute The Descendants costar, Shailene Woodley.
Awards season in Hollywood is in full-swing, but the big night that Tinseltown is most looking forward to comes up toward the end of February. The Academy Awards® will air live on Sunday, February 26 on ABC. The telecast will begin at 6:00pm CT/7:00pm ET with the red carpet arrivals. Let’s see if it will be George Clooney taking home a “Best Actor” or “Best Adapted Screenplay” trophy.
Here are photos of George Clooney at the SAG Awards® on January 29, on the red carpet with Stacy Keibler, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson, and onstage presenting with Shailene Woodley.

Hey Ringer fans, the series is FINALLY making its way back from Winter hibernation tonight. The nighttime soap continues to be totally watchable in all its soapy ridiculousness. You know it’s true! Only in TV-world could one woman get herself into so much trouble and still be alive to continue her charade. The good news is that Bridget seems to have turned her own life around after taking over her twin sister’s life. The bad news is that it looks like her “dead” twin, Siobhan, doesn’t want her to have her posh life and be happy, so tonight she might be making some waves for poor Bridget. We’re still not sure why Siobhan was hiding away in Paris and faking her death, or having her best friend kidnapped, anyhow. The previous sentence would only make sense in TV-world, right?!
On tonight’s Ringer, “It Just Got Normal,” Bridget offers to host a fundraiser that her friend Greer is holding for Juliet’s school and discovers that Greer knew one of Siobhan’s deep dark secrets. While back in New York, Siobhan discovers that Bridget has settled into her former life more easily than Siobhan expected and she is determined to change that. Meanwhile, Malcolm decides to work for Andrew at Martin/Charles in order to keep an eye on him, and Henry mourns the death of his wife.
In Ringer, Sarah Michell Gellar stars as Bridget Kelly, former prostitute and junkie who turned her life around after taking over her twin’s life. Hey, she was dead anyhow, what could it hurt? Except that Gellar does double-duty as that plotting twin, Siobhan Martin, who is very much alive unbeknownst to Bridget. Ioan Gruffudd plays Andrew Martin, Siobhan’s husband that Bridget has grown quite fond of (and who can blame her?!). The problem is, he thinks she’s his wife Siobhan. Always-fantastic Nestor Carbonell plays FBI Agent Victor Machado, who still knows something is not quite right in Siobhan’s and Bridget’s worlds. He thinks he’s been talking to his witness Bridget’s sister Siobhan, when in fact he’s been talking to the woman he’s after all along. Kris Polaha plays Henry, Siobhan’s lover and husband of her best friend. But, as soon as Bridget found out that her sister was cheating on her seemingly nice husband, she put the kabosh on her sister’s relationship with Henry. Mike Colter plays Malcolm, Bridget’s Narcotics Anonymous sponsor who made his way to New York and is working his way back into Bridget’s life. And, Zoey Deutch plays Andrew’s bratty teen daughter, Juliet, who mostly despises Bridget – whether she’s the real Siobhan or not! Juliet is currently infatuated with her teacher at school, Mr. Carpenter, much to his dismay.
In tonight’s Ringer, Jason Dohring returns as Mr. Carpenter. And, Madchen Amick guest-stars as Greer Sheridan. Other guests tonight are Sean Patrick Thomas as Solomon, Chelsea Tavares as Andrea, Brody Hutzler as Jeffrey Sheridan, Rob Arbogast as Mr. Kirkland, and James Madio as Sketch. “It Just Got Normal” was written by Cathryn Humphris, and directed by Jeff Thomas.
Ringer airs tonight, January 31, at 8:00pm CT/9:00pm ET on The CW. Here are episode stills from “It Just Got Normal,” courtesy of The CW.
